Since 1992, cosmetic chemist Richard Parker has dedicated his career to creating skincare formulations that are considered the platinum standard in protecting and restoring skin’s natural luminosity and beauty. His pioneering research into the relationships between skin genetics and epigenetic environmental influences led to Parker’s development of the RATIONALE Essential Six Collections — a daily skincare ritual built upon the six facets of skin vitality and radiance. HOW DID RATIONALE COME ABOUT? WHAT INSPIRED THIS PARTNERSHIP WITH COMO THE TREASURY?

The journey began when I was a formulation chemist in my youth. One of my first projects was working with a group of Melbourne dermatologists using lasers to treat sun-damaged skin. During this study, I discovered that 80% of facial ageing was caused by the sun. This inspired me to create the RATIONALE Essential Six — three products in the morning for solar protection, and three at night for solar repair.

As the brand grew, we recognised a natural home for us within the luxury spa and wellness space. COMO The Treasury felt like such a beautiful alignment for us. Their reputation for excellence in the service they deliver, and their treatment standards really resonated with our own exacting standards of quality and experience. We wanted to create a partnership at COMO Shambhala The Treasury that would offer guests results-driven treatments, enjoyed within its luxurious environment. WHAT IS SKIN HEALTH COMPOSED OF? HOW DO THE NEW TREATMENTS AT COMO SHAMBHALA THE TREASURY HELP TO PROMOTE SKIN HEALTH?

Our approach to skin is based on the Six Pillars of Skin Health – biologic systems that exist in our skin to protect during the day and repair solar skin damage at night. During the day, the first three protective pillars are Immune Protection, Antioxidant Protection and Environmental Protection, while at night, the repair pillars are Barrier Repair, pH Repair and DNA Repair.

Three new facial treatments were created to complement COMO Shambhala’s existing treatment menu, while honouring our shared commitment to excellence and care. The Rejuvenating Renewal Treatment is ideal for all, and can be finessed to boost brightness in tired, lacklustre wintery skin, or nourish and calm an inflamed complexion after a little too much time in the sun. The Renewal Clarity treatment is an indulgent two-hour appointment, perfect year-round, for guests looking to indulge in self-care and me time, while experiencing instant radiant results. Finally, The Orbital Booster is the perfect add-on for anyone, and particularly great for those looking to refresh and reawaken the eye zone after travelling. 

As with all RATIONALE treatments, each facial is fully customisable to the skin as it presents on the day and designed to support individual skin goals. This tailored approach also means that the facials are suitable across all seasons, adapting beautifully to changes in both climate and condition.

AUSTRALIA IS KNOWN FOR ITS HIGH SUN EXPOSURE LEVELS. DO THESE TREATMENTS HELP TO COUNTER THE EFFECTS OF SUN DAMAGE ON THE SKIN?

At the heart of our philosophy is solar protection and the prevention and repair of solar ageing, so it’s only natural that our formulations and treatments are designed to help mitigate this. As key elements of each treatment are fully customisable, we can tailor the experience, depending on how your skin is presenting, to target these concerns. We may incorporate actives, like Vitamin C, to help visibly diminish signs of solar-induced pigmentation or brighten complexion dullness, or we may opt to infuse an antioxidant like Vitamin D with ultrasound devices to help augment the skin’s natural solar defences. Incorporating a modality like LED also helps to visibly reduce signs of inflammation in the skin.

We also consider after-care, tailoring the experience not only to your skin but also the time of day and your lifestyle.  For example, if you’re having a morning treatment, we’ll finish with SPF to safeguard your skin throughout the day, while in the evening we focus on repairing and supporting the skin through its natural recovery phase. In this way, every experience is tailored not only to your skin but also to the time of day and your lifestyle, ensuring long-term solar protection and skin health.
