CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT YOUR BACKGROUND AND HOW YOU GOT INTO PILATES?

Before I started teaching, I was a professional performer in New York, and Pilates was my go-to for physical conditioning when I wasn't on stage. About 15 years ago, I suffered a major injury — I needed ACL and meniscus reconstruction surgery, and I basically had to relearn how to walk. It was a really tough experience, but because of my background, I already knew how to move my body safely. Pilates allowed me to keep building strength and stay active without giving up my practice. That’s really when I realised how impactful it could be for all types of bodies, and I knew I wanted to share it with others.

WHAT IS YOUR TEACHING PHILOSOPHY?

I stick closely to what Joseph Pilates intended when he created the method, which he originally called Contrology — the study of control over movement, breath, flow, concentration, and the mind-body connection. For me, Pilates isn't just a workout to tone your arms or get a six-pack; it’s a whole lifestyle that translates into everyday life. My philosophy is all about mastering the groundwork and the little details first — real growth happens when you get excited about the basics.

HOW DOES CLASSICAL PILATES DIFFER FROM MODERN REFORMER WORKOUTS?

I love that Pilates has become a universal name, but most people encounter it through boutique reformer classes, which may not accurately capture the foundation of Pilates. Classical Pilates is an entire system that incorporates over 20 pieces of apparatus, and is deeply rooted in full-body integration, proper alignment, and safety. Every exercise has a specific purpose and progression to build strength, control, and stamina safely.

YOU ALSO OFFER POWER STROKE PILATES AT PARROT CAY. WHAT IS IT, AND HOW DOES IT HELP ATHLETES?

I developed Power Stroke Pilates after seeing how popular racquet sports like tennis and padel are at the resort. It’s a specialised conditioning flow that focuses on core control, leg stability, hip strength, and rotational mobility. Instead of having someone just practice hitting a ball for an hour, I take it back to the tiny building blocks — like shoulder stability and proper foot grounding. That way, when you step back onto the court, your core automatically engages so you can react effortlessly.

WHY DO YOU ALSO INCORPORATE KUN-AQUA INTO YOUR OFFERING?

Water is so healing and supportive. I often hear people say, "Oh, I can't do Pilates," which hurts my heart because movement is for everyone. But I get that people can have a mental block or a “fear factor” when approaching ground workouts. Kun-Aqua uses the water to take away that intimidation. It still requires you to fight the water and control your breath, mind, and body, but it does so in a gentle, welcoming way.

HOW DO YOUR PRIVATE SESSIONS COMPARE TO YOUR COMPLIMENTARY GROUP MAT CLASSES?

In a private session, we get to use all the studio apparatus to focus purely on what your specific body needs for that day. In group classes, we’re on the mat, which is actually the hardest work in the whole system! I love group classes because of the community energy. When guests do both, I encourage them to take the personalised alignment and body awareness we worked on in private sessions and apply it with personal agency during the group mat class.

IF A GUEST ONLY HAS TIME FOR ONE SESSION WITH YOU, WHAT DO YOU WANT THEM TO LEAVE WITH?

On the island, I get to meet people who are having the best day of their lives! My goal is simple — I just want them to leave smiling, feeling good, aligned, and strong. Whether they’re brand new or a seasoned practitioner, I want them to step out of the studio feeling accomplished, breathing easier, and ready to enjoy whatever the rest of their day holds.
