RECIPE: SLEEPYTIME TONIC

Just the smell of this nightcap lulls the most overactive mind. Try this recipe for healthy rest, a better mood, and enhanced vitality.

Getting sufficient sleep is essential for maintaining optimal health and well-being, leaving your body and mind refreshed every morning. 

Healthy sleep allows your body to repair, regenerate and recover naturally. Good sleep is vital for effective brain function to support concentration and clarity of thought and body movement with more energy, coordination and speed. 

The recipe for this specially concocted tonic is a mineral-rich, gluten-free sleep remedy and calls for minimum ingredients but yields maximum flavour. It’s a simple yet potent drink that nourishes and prepares the body and mind for quality sleep by infusing almond milk with our favourite festive flavours of nutmeg, cinnamon, and raw honey. 

A rich source of melatonin and magnesium — both of which work as natural sleep aids — almond milk also helps reduce inflammation and the stress hormone cortisol that’s known to disrupt sleep. 

An aromatic and calming spice, the antioxidant-rich nutmeg enables the body to destress and soothes muscle aches. Its high mineral content regulates blood circulation, and pressure releases sleep-inducing serotonin that relaxes the blood vessels while keeping the heart functioning efficiently.

Cinnamon is also widely accepted as a medicinal spice with warming, anti-inflammatory properties to keep the digestive system healthy, preventing infections and stabilising blood sugar levels. RECIPE

Sleepy Time Tonic (Serves 2)

Ingredients:

  • 500ml almond nut milk 

  • 1 tbsp raw honey

  • ¼ tsp nutmeg, freshly grated 

  • ¼ tsp cinnamon, ground 

Method:

  1. Combine the almond nut milk, honey and spices in a small saucepan. 

  2. Heat gently over low to medium heat until warm. 

  3. Pour into mugs and enjoy.
